Celebrating Arts Week: A journey fuelled by the National Lottery

As Arts Week kicks off, we’re thrilled to share our story and the incredible support that makes it all possible. This week, we celebrate the powerful impact of the arts on our community here in Hull – a mission we’re proud to bring to life every day with the help of the National Lottery Community Fund.

At Back to Ours, we believe the arts are for everyone. We’re here to create opportunities for the people of Hull to engage with creativity in ways that are accessible, inspiring, and unforgettable. But this journey isn’t one we take alone. It’s a community effort.

Bringing arts to the hearts of Hull communities

Our mission is simple: we want to invite everyone in Hull to experience the arts. From families enjoying a first-time theatre experience to local artists working on ambitious projects, Back to Ours is all about creating moments that make people say, “I never thought I’d see that here.” And we make this happen by bringing the arts to places people know and love – from local parks and shopping centres to familiar community spaces transformed into art venues.

But it’s more than just about location. We know that creating lasting cultural change isn’t a quick fix. It’s a journey, one that requires trust, time, and a shared sense of purpose. Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, we’re able to invest in this journey and support projects that evolve, surprise, and resonate with everyone involved.

The power of National Lottery funding

National Lottery funding has allowed us to dream big and take risks – and it’s those risks that make our work exciting and impactful. It lets us commission, produce, and program challenging and inspiring work that sparks conversation, provokes thought, and most importantly, connects us all. Without this support, the innovative events and projects we bring to Hull simply wouldn’t be possible.

This funding also empowers us to reach people who might not typically engage with the arts. By breaking down barriers and creating inviting, inclusive experiences, we’re showing the people of Hull that the arts are here for them. We’re able to build new programmes, form local partnerships, and offer a warm invitation to those who’ve never engaged with the arts before.

Stories of impact: Real voices of Hull

Behind every project we create, there are real people whose lives are touched by the arts. Here are just a few of the voices from our community:

“Back to Ours get people out of their house, together with other people, they’re so friendly it’s unbelievable.”

“It’s nice that people care that much.”

“Everybody is so friendly. Everyone joins in and has a really good time and a laugh and a dance.”

“It’s far better than me being sat at home, in my house on my own. They couldn’t make it any better if they tried.”

Join Us in the National Lottery Arts Week Celebration

We’re beyond grateful for the ongoing support from the National Lottery Community Fund and every single person who contributes to making these experiences possible. This Arts Week, we want to celebrate with all of you. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or have been part of the journey all along. Thank you for being here and helping us make Hull a place where the arts aren’t just seen, but felt in every part of our community.

To everyone who’s been a part of this journey, thank you for believing in the power of creativity and community. Happy Arts Week from everyone at Back to Ours!
