Haptic Tales – A New Community Story Massage Programme

We’re proud to announce a new programme commissioned by Back to Ours from our associate company, the multi-award-winning theatre company Concrete Youth.

Haptic Tales is a brand-new pilot story massage programme designed especially for people labelled with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

In community spaces across Hull, Haptic Tales removes travel and geographical barriers by bringing creative, accessible experiences into the heart of local neighbourhoods. This new initiative delivers meaningful, sensory sessions right on residents’ doorsteps, to enhance community cohesion and support wellbeing.

Story massage combines gentle storytelling with positive touch, offering a calming and inclusive experience that promotes communication and connection. Each session includes soft mats and hoists, enabling participants to enjoy comfortable floor time and access the sessions in ways that suit their needs. Whether it’s the gentle rhythm of a fairy tale or the soft press of a breeze, Haptic Tales brings stories to life through positive touch, creating a joyful, enriching space for participants, families, and carers alike.
