‘Our City’ is coming to Hull city centre on Saturday, 14th March.
Our City is a brand-new, community-led spectacular that will be a huge celebration of local identity, made with and for the people of Hull.
Our City Evening Show: 7pm – 8pm
Queen Victoria Square
Approximately 1 hr
Once the Our Tides of Light procession returns to Queen Victoria Square, a very special show will start. So get ready to set sail through eight decades of this amazing city we call home.
‘The evening tide has rolled back in
Steered by the glow of the shore
This city, a beacon of fire and light
For nine hundred years and more
It sparks up the heart and leaves a deep mark
It pounds through the veins and the bones
It’s thicker than water, brighter than blood
This city we call our home’
Written by local writer Russ Litten, shaped by over 1000 residents, Our City tells the story of an ordinary Hull family, weaving together humour and moving moments with references to the city’s maritime heritage and key sporting milestones – from England’s 1966 World Cup victory to the successes of Hull FC, Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull City AFC.
The production features a cast of professional local actors, singers and musicians, backed by hundreds of performers from Hull choirs including Freedom Chorus and All For One Choir, with a soundtrack of songs from The Housemartins, Coldplay, Queen and many more.
It’s 1956, and Martin is looking for his mum, Beryl. He’s got questions he’d like to ask her about life, so nothing too heavy! We join them as they reminisce through the next two decades of love and loss.
‘Lets celebrate all that we are
Our past, our future, and where we are now
In this city of ordinary stars’
We’ll meet Victoria, who’ll steer us through the decades. She’s always kept a watchful eye on our city through the highs and the lows. Together with Martin, Andy and Scarlet, we’ll set sail through the years, but as with life, there’ll be a few surprises and a very special guest!
A Hull-made spectacle not to be missed.
