We don’t half love a good Shindig!

Our events for the Over 65s are the hottest ticket in town, with an afternoon of dancing, music, afternoon tea, bottomless brews and a load of fun.

There are many isolated and lonely people across the city, and our Shindigs – as well as being a brilliant afternoon out – are about connecting people in a very Back to Ours way.

Lockdown threw a small spoke in our party wheels. Still, we adapted the concept to become Shindig on your Sofa instead, securing ACE funding to hand-deliver 240 boxes full of treats and DVDs of entertainment to people’s doorsteps through Hub and public nominations.

As of April 2022 live Shindigs came back with a vengeance, kicking off with an Easter eggstravaganza at St. Michael’s Church Hall in Orchard Park, followed by our biggest yet to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in the Bransholme Circus Big Top. Our most recent Shindig in December 2025 was a Christmas cracker at Edinburgh Street Community Centre.

We’re into our 8th year of delivering Shindig and we’ve reached over 1500 people. We love bringing older people together, it shows them how much we care and that they’re an important part of our communities.

Over the years Shindig has built lovely new friendships and there’s even been a little bit of romance. We firmly believe that older people should be valued, cared for and given the opportunity to share their memories whilst also making new ones.

All of our older people deserve a right good Shindig!
