TO ED FRINGE FESTIVAL AND BACK: A WEEKEND OF ARTS, INSPO & BOBBY DAVRO

Earlier this month, we nipped up to bonnie Scotland for our annual pilgrimage to Ed Fringe Festival with some of our wonderful Hub Members, and WOW, what a time we had!

Our Hubs are really important to the work we do. Made up of different people across the beautiful city that we call home. One of their many roles is to see diverse work and advise on whether they think it could be programmed in their neighbourhoods.

With this in mind, we squeezed in so many fantastic new shows into our non-stop weekend. From puppet shows to acrobatic performers,  stunning circus acts to soul-stirring musical numbers, Ed Fringe Festival once again delivered an extraordinary range of performances and talent.

It was so refreshing to be back in the vibrant city, soaking in the buzz and incredible atmosphere, connecting with artists and discovering new gems. You truly never know what magic you’ll encounter around each corner at Ed Fringe Festival.

Our ‘Go Sees’ are all about experiencing different art forms and discussing how they might resonate with communities across Hull. Our Hub Members, as always, lead these conversations, bringing their deep rooted understanding of local needs, wants and tastes to the table.

So, what might you be seeing soon in Hull then?

We’re still talking that through but in the meantime, here’s what the Back to Ours team and Hub Members had to say about their 2024 Fringe experience:

“I couldn’t wait to return to Edinburgh with the Hub members, to see brilliant shows and spend time together in such a special place. This year was full of highlights for me: from the electrifying energy of Ghost Light to the poignant storytelling of How a Jellyfish Saved the World And of course, OH OH blew us all away – they’re on the list for Hull, for sure!” – Lou, Back to Ours Artistic Director.

We also bumped into an old mate of ours, the legendary Bobby Davro! Who remembers our secret gig from a few years back?

“Edinburgh was fantastic! One of my favourite shows was Reuben Kaye: Live and Intimidating, that left me smiling for days.” – Michael, Hub Member.

“I was so looking forward to returning to Ed Fringe, and it was everything I hoped for and more. A Bee Story was the standout for me – it had everything. I didn’t want the show, or the weekend, to end!” – Laura, Back to Ours Engagement Coordinator.

La Clique was an absolute spectacle! From daring circus acts to dazzling drag performances, it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The whole weekend was a whirlwind of excitement, and I feel so lucky to have been part of it.” – Alison, Hub Member.

“The Fringe was a sensory overload in the best way possible. From breathtaking acrobatics, and heartwarming musical performances like Rosie and Hugh’s Great Big Adventure, we loved every minute. We can’t wait to see some of these acts in Hull soon!” – Aime, Hub Member.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival never fails to inspire us, and we’re already buzzing with ideas about what could come next for Hull. Keep an eye out – exciting things are on the horizon!
