SUMMER SHINDIG
We’re hosting a Summer Shindig to combat loneliness amongst Hull’s over 65s!
Following a successful national fundraising Big Give campaign earlier this year, we’re excited to announce the first of many ‘Shindig’ events, aimed at bringing joy, connection and a bit of magic to Hull’s elderly residents.
We want to say a big thanks to the generosity of the Hull community. Our first attempt at raising funds through public donations saw us surpass the £5,000 target. We will be using these funds to create vibrant and memorable experiences for over 65s in the city. Helping to combat isolation and encouraging physical and emotional wellbeing.
“Our vibrant Shindigs are designed to provide a delightful escape for the over 65s in Hull’s underserved neighbourhoods,” said Louise Yates, Artistic Director and CEO of Back to Ours. “They offer a lively afternoon filled with music, dancing, entertainment and endless fun.”
The first funded Shindig event takes place as part of Loneliness Awareness Week, 10 – 16 June 2024. A global campaign that aims to empower and encourage everyone to make connections. Aligned with our mission of bringing people of all ages together to have a cracking time.
In Hull alone, an estimated 12.5% of adults report feeling lonely often or all the time, particularly those over 65.
Our Summer Shindig will take place on Thursday 13 June 2024, 12 noon – 3pm, at Edinburgh Street Community Centre.
The Shindig event, made possible by the generosity of the local community, as well as The National Lottery Know Your Neighbourhood Fund, promises an afternoon of music, dancing, entertainment, sweet treats, bottomless brews and sparkling conversations, ensuring attendees have a fantastic time while building magical memories and connections.
Shindig events are not just about having fun. It’s about making a positive difference in the lives of Hull’s elderly population. We’re inviting over 65s to join us on Thursday 13 June at Edinburgh Street Community Centre to celebrate the spirit of community.
“Our fabulous Shindigs not only offer a great time but also foster connections and a sense of community,” Louise added. “By supporting our Big Give campaign back in March, those who generously donated have directly contributed to enhancing the wellbeing of Hull’s most vulnerable older residents.”
