Introducing our 2026 Hub Commission: The Curse of the Frozen Pirates
Ahoy me hearties! We’re thrilled to reveal this year’s Hub Commission – which will feature at our Winter Parades this December, promising bucket-loads of crazy, pirate-themed chaos!
The Curse of the Frozen Pirates, produced by Colosseum of Chaos, has been selected by our fantastic Hub Members to feature at our hub sites during the Parades – and we can’t wait to see the concept brought to life.
What to expect
Illuminated pirate characters – bad pirates frozen and then cursed to spread goodness – will bring magic and mayhem to Hull’s neighbourhoods. Expect audience participation, singalongs, and plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Why this commission?
Each year, Back to Ours issues a commission brief to local artists, on behalf of our Hub Members – a group of Hull residents deeply embedded in our parade neighbourhoods, who are tasked with choosing the winning concept.
This year, our Hub Members received several excellent proposals and chose the idea they felt would most resonate with local audiences.
The Hub Members voted to select The Curse of the Frozen Pirates for its creativity, community engagement potential and sheer entertainment value.
The artists
Colosseum of Chaos is known for playful, participatory performance work. Andy Ross and Josh Overton’s creative partnership will be sure to bring hilarity, chaos and a healthy dose of pirate mischief. Their proposal stood out for its interactive elements and commitment to getting audiences involved.

Winter Parades 2026
The Curse of the Frozen Pirates will tour Hull’s neighbourhoods as part of our Winter Parades, which will take place Monday 7th – Thursday 10th December. Don’t miss them!
