Back to Ours is and always has been about people, and what do people like doing best? Having a right good old natter.
Launched in 2019 with a grant from the National Community Lottery Fund, Bransholme Chat is a legacy of the Gold Nose of Green Ginger, part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 Land of Green Ginger project. It became evident that people wanted a community space, a place to meet and chat, swap stories and try lots of different things.
It’s a place people can come and meet other people, there’s always someone to talk to and it’s for any age. A shop that brings people together and helps to build new friendships, at a time when social isolation is at its highest. We have a programme of weekly activities and special events throughout the year, it’s a place to come along and have some fun with other local people.
In 2022 we were delighted to announce that Bransholme Chat had been awarded another three years of funding by the National Lottery Community Fund – read all about it here.
‘Since I lost my husband I don’t know what I would have done without the chat shop, it’s been a life line for me. I’m lucky really because I’ve got some family but some people don’t and wouldn’t have anyone if it wasn’t for the shop’ Bransholme Resident
We have a saying….Keep Chatting Keep Cheerful!
Bransholme Chat is a fantastic community space and multi-functional, the front room is open for drop-in chat and the back room is really versatile. It’s been used for exhibitions, activities, gigs, and even small theatre shows – our in-house children’s show High Horse premiered for a week before moving onto The Big Malarkey and Freedom Festival, and it was also a hive of production activity during 1940’s punk-pop circus opera Back to Bransholme.
